The 171 rooms, including four penthouse suites and a two-bedroom presidential fiefdom, share a cosseting, contemporary style. The simple, ample volumes are flooded with light. Natural materials include Makha wood from Thailand. Paintings are also featured, by Natee Utarit, at the cutting edge of Asia's art scene.

In-room technological specifications include ISDN, high-speed broadband Internet access with wireless LAN option, 25" flatscreen televisions (satellite and cable), dual line phone with voice mail, DVD and CD players, personal fax and VCR (upon request).

The Metropolitan Bangkok provides various standards of guest accommodation; all offer generous space, with luxury felt in the telling detail, from towels like clouds to COMO Shambhala bathroom amenities.

Met Room: These are the largest standard/deluxe rooms in Bangkok, at 51-54sq metres each. King size or twin beds are flanked by a simple teak wood bench, bedecked in Thai silk cushions. The mosaic and limestone bathrooms are conspicuously oversized.

Studio: Like the 122 Met Rooms, the seven Studios offer ample space, at 43sq metres, with the same amenities. However, beds are king size only, and the bathrooms feature a separate shower and bathtub.

City Room: The 22, 29sq metre City Rooms feature a Queen Size bed and large limestone and mosaic bathroms, the shower combined with the tub.

Terrace Suite: Picture a Met Room (see above) and add a spacious private patio with clean-lined landscaping and an outdoor bench.

The hotel's four penthouse suites and single presidential suite are located on the hotel's 11th floor, a private corridor dressed with antique teakwood carving, Chinese 'horse shoe' chairs and temple bells.

Features of the four penthouse suites include:
- Open-plan living space with original Helen Yardley-designed rug, Patricia Urguilo sofa, Artemide Melampo table lamps, and bamboo coffee table from Northern Thailand
- Dining space with custom-designed table in local wood, and open-plan pantry
- Extra guest room (upstairs) with conservatory-style sitting room and expansive bathroom, boasting a bird's-eye view of Bangkok
- Double-volume windows with electronically-operated handmade Thai silk curtains

In addition, the presidential suite has a separate dining room with an anique red lacquer cabinet, a custom-designed ceiling light in handblown red and orange glass, and large windows throughout, especially in the bathroom and dressing room areas.

At the Metropolitan, Bangkok, sleek service and youthful panache are combined with a cool and contemporary east-west aesthetic. This is the Thai capital's newest hotspot, a calming haven within the urban hubbub with a belief in detail shared by the Metropolitan, London, also from COMO Hotels and Resorts.

Dining
Award-winning Australian chef Amanda Gale oversees restaurants at the Metropolitan, Bangkok. Cy'an serves Moorish, Mediterranean cuisine, while Glow is dedicated to healthful, organic cooking. Both are destinations in their own right, like Nobu at the Metropolitan, London.
